Jenn Swagar began her second stint as head coach of the Dinos field hockey program on May 1, 2022.
Swagar served as the head coach of the Dinos field hockey team during the program’s most successful period over the last two decades. At the helm from 2007 to 2012, Swagar saw the Dinos improve their record in five consecutive seasons. In 2010, Calgary finished with a 5-5-2 record and Swagar won the Marina Van Der Merwe award as U SPORTS Coach of the Year – but there was more to come.
The Dinos hosted the U SPORTS Field Hockey Championships at Hawkings Field in 2011. The team finished with a 5-3-4 record during the regular season and made their first appearance in a national tournament in a decade where they earned a program-best finish with a silver medal.
Before becoming head coach in 2007, Swagar served as an assistant coach with the Dinos from 1996 to 1999, then co-coached the team with Anne Kromm and Karen McNeill until 2001. Swagar played for the Dinos from 1991 to 1996 and was team captain in her final season while also stepping in as a player-coach for a period in 1994.
Swagar holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of Calgary in 1996 and completed a Master of Science in Physical Activity and Sport Coaching at Ohio University in 2016. She is also the co-founder and coaching director of MOST Physical Preparation, a medical fitness facility based in Calgary.
