Streak at four as Dinos top Horns

| By:
LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - Hayley Wickenheiser potted a goal and two assists and Melissa Zubick added a pair of helpers as the Calgary Dinos extended their win streak to four games with a 4-1 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns Friday night in Southern Alberta.

BOX SCORE

The teams utilized the entire playing surface evenly throughout the night, with many end-to-end plays, but the Dinos were able to generate far more scoring opportunities. The Dinos opened the scoring seven minutes into the first when a Wickenheiser shot pinballed first off Pronghorns netminder Shauntelle Williams, and then Dinos forward Jenna Smith, who was credited for the goal.

Lethbridge found themselves on the board at the halfway point of the first period with a Calgary own goal that was credited to Shelby Ballendine. The Dinos regained the lead moments before the buzzer sounded when Wickenheiser re-directed a point shot from Zubick. The Dinos outshot the Horns 13-5 in the first.

The second period was largely quiet, but dominated by the Dinos, who peppered Williams with 18 shots on the period to the Horns' eight. At 16:26 of the second. Dino forward Erin Davidson was in the right place at the right time, when the rebound from a Casey Irving shot ended up on Davidson's stick. Davidson calmly lifted the puck over Williams' outstretched pad to put the Dinos up by two.

The third period again was completely dominated by the Dinos. Although they had a goal disallowed halfway through the period due to an attacking player being present in the crease, they eventually were able to put the game out of reach late in the third. The Dinos took advantage of a defensive miscue by the Horns, and Erika Mitschke tucked the puck into the side of the net moments before the one minute warning to seal the game. The Horns were only able to muster a single shot in the third, while the Dinos managed eight.

The win moves the Dinos to 10-4-0, while the Horns slip to 4-9-2 on the season.

The Horns will look to bounce back Saturday night in Calgary for the back half of the home-and-home Calgary's Olympic Oval at 7:30 p.m.
