CALGARY – Due to a scheduling conflict at Father David Bauer Arena, the University of Calgary Dinos have moved the first two games of their home men's hockey playoff series this weekend to the Max Bell Centre.
The Dinos take on the UBC Thunderbirds in a best-of-three Canada West quarterfinal series this weekend. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. for the first two games on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively, at the Max Bell Centre. If necessary, Game 3 will be played Sunday, Feb. 17 at Father David Bauer Arena, also at 7 p.m.
“We understand that this will cause some disruption to our fans for this important series,” said Dinos athletic director Ron Wuotila. “Despite our best efforts, we were unable to make arrangements to play the entire series in our home venue.”
The series marks the second straight year the Dinos and Thunderbirds have faced off in a first-round series, with Calgary winning the series in three games last season en route to their heartbreaking triple-overtime loss in the conference final. Calgary earned the right to host the series by virtue of their fourth-place finish with a 17-11-0 record on the year. UBC finished fifth at 14-11-3.
The Dinos took three of the four games between the teams in the regular season, falling 4-2 in the first game at home before responding with 7-4, 6-2, and 2-1 (OT) wins.
Tickets for the series will be available at the door.
