CALGARY – University of Calgary Dinos running back
Mercer Timmis along with defensive back
Elie Bouka landed on the Canadian Football League's second prospect list ahead of the 2016 Canadian Draft, the CFL announced Friday.
The duo makes up two of the 11 CIS players in the Top 20, as selected by the CFL Scouting Bureau made up of scouts, player personnel directors, and general managers from the league's nine teams.
Timmis lands in the seventh spot, down two notches from the first list in September but still the highest-ranked tailback on the list. The fourth-year Burlington, Ont. native was named a CIS first team All-Canadian for the third consecutive season last month after compiling 666 yards on 80 carries in just six games during the regular season. He is the Dinos' all-time touchdown leader and sits third on the school's all-time rushing list with 2,984 yards through his four seasons.
Bouka, who was fourth on the September prospects list, drops to the 16th position after missing the entire 2015 season due to injury.
Manitoba's David Onyemata is the top-ranked player coming out of CIS, while Iowa wide receiver Tevaun Smith tops the overall list.
The CFL Draft is set for the spring, and the Dinos will look to continue their impressive record: seven University of Calgary players were selected a year ago, led by offensive linemen
Sukh Chungh and
Sean McEwen and No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Since 2010, 24 Dinos players have been drafted into the CFL, and there were more active CFL players from the University of Calgary than from any other institution in North America during the 2015 season.
